The Kangurumai Coffee Factory is a washing station owned and operated by the Kangiri Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS). Because most farms in Kenya are small family run operations, Cooperatives provide farmers with oportunities and access to technologies they would otherwise be unable to afford on their own. Member farms contribute unprocessed cherry to the Coop where is it meticulously sorted and graded.
With a big focus on sustaintability Kangurumai has developed a system that diverts spent water from the washing process away from fresh water sources so it can be filtered and and reintroduced to the natural water table. They also have a solar powered drying system which allows for more precise and reliable results.
